I am available for author visits, school and library presentations, author-in-residence programs, writing workshops and conferences. As an author, I love writing. And as a university instructor and workshop facilitator, I love teaching about writing too. Presentations and writing workshops vary in length from 45 minutes to a half-day, and can include the following:
- Creative Writing: Using your own memories, experiences, questions and curiosity to create compelling writing and convincing characters.
- Editing Your Work: It is said that writers write but published writers revise. Tips for turning a rough first draft into a polished manuscript.
- Getting Published: A step by step guide to researching your market, writing a query letter, submitting your work, coping with rejection letters, and working with an editor and publishing company.
- My personal journey in becoming a writer, and an inside look at how I approach the process of writing a novel.
All workshops and presentations are interactive and include writing exercises and student participation. Workshops can be geared to grades four through twelve. I also do school visits for younger children (grades 1-3) and provide workshops and writing instruction for adults.
